This little tool will let you change out valve springs and valve seals without removing the head. It's a great way to deal with a set of leaky seals, for example. Oil smoke on idle and overrun? Easy fix.

How about a new set of valve springs? Now you can swap those out without pulling the head off as well.

It's designed specifically for the NA/NB Miata and bolts on to the head. The valve is held open by a screw so you have both hands to work.

You will need to prevent the valve from falling out of the head. You can use a leakdown tester to provide air pressure in the cylinder or you can feed rope down the spark plug hole so it piles up on the piston and supports the valve.

Please note that the valve keepers can get bonded to the valve spring seat, meaning that things won't come apart as intended if you simply compress the spring. As long as you follow the included instructions, you'll be fine.

Fits all NA and NB Miatas as well as many other twin-cam engines.

Product worked swimmingly. This tool turned a 12 hour just into a 2 hour job. Highly recommend

1.8 valve spring compressor- slick tool

This worked without a hitch. I used this with rope (car passion channel) in the cylinders in order to keep the valves from falling into the cylinder. One piece of advice is to use ceran wrap over the base of the compressor to get the valve keepers to stay in the retainer as you push the compressor down 3/4 of the way.

Made the job so much easier!

Wow! I'm so glad I purchased this tool for swapping out the valve seals! This tedious job would have been so much more frustrating without it. I added a 7/16" wing nut to the pressure screw (with a 3/8" locknut) so I wouldn't have to keep reaching for the socket to make fine adjustments, as the stock springs have light pressure. I also used a telescopic magnet as the supplied magnetic screwdriver is has a little too large of a handle to easily grab the keepers. But otherwise, i am so pleased with this tool!

Worth every penny

I grabbed this tool up to make changing my valve seals out easier. It made it a breeze. Make sure you free everything up with a socket before compressing the spring and you won't have any issues. It's not a short process doing all the seals, but having this tool made it frustration free. Couldn't recommend it more if you're taking on this project.
