Description

Most will agree that the Miata's sun visors are all but useless and that the factory dome/dash lights are inadequate to see inside the car at night. This kit provides accommodations to delete the sun visors by replacing the visors' mounting bases with 3D printed delete plates that contain LEDs that actually allow you to see. Like all of Flyin' Miata's 3D printed parts, these are made of super strong carbon-infused nylon.

Choose between cool white (6000K) and warm white (2700K) light.

Warms look good and match! Some installation advice (for dash-light-ers):

When you get to the part where you have to "T" the red wire from the LEDs into the red wire on the switch: Remove the glove box (only two screws on the bottom of it) and unplug the dash light wiring harness. This detaches the dash light assembly, making it *much* easier to work with the switch wire than trying to tie and crimp wires that are basically behind the dash.
I discovered this trick when trying to figure out why none of the lights were working after double, triple, and quadruple checking my wiring, shorting to bypass the switch, etc. I was about to call the help line in frustration but decided to eat and shower first. This magic combo that always fixes my car problems delivered once again: I thought to check the "room" fuse, which it turns out I had blown somehow. So be careful not to accidentally short anything. (Side note: finding and getting to the interior fuse box is not fun when you don't have a removable panel!)

great lighting, not so great instructions

Instructions were somewhat confusing in places. The mix of NA and NB steps in the same paragraphs made it hard to tell which was which. The supplied connectors were not well labeled, so I ended up ignoring them and used solder connections instead. The instructions for how to splice into the power wire was a single sentence that didn't explain you had to cut the existing wire to do the splicing. I ignored that and used a solid core 18 gauge soldered to the power tab on the dome light unit which worked much better. I suggest rewriting the instructions and maybe making some videos or at least better pictures. Once in place however the lights themselves are fantastic.

Instructions and an easier install could be better

I am not a wiring expert, so keep that in mind reading my review. This kit definitely works, but I found the instructions and the wiring provided to not be beginner friendly. As far as the instructions go, there just isn't enough pictures (or big enough). They talk about making T's, but they don't ever picture the T's. The instructions are more text than pictures, and personally I find the ratio to be a little too lopsided for text. The instructions are also for more than one model, which is fine since you can distinguish between the two, but it's not ideal.

I ended up making a mistake on my install and breaking one of the LED's. I do not blame Flyin Miata for this mistake, however it ended up moving me to an alternative product since FM was sold out. I ended up with a competitors kit and it was far more intuitive, especially for someone with low experience like myself. Not only that, there were an ample amount of pictures, and the instructions were separated by the model. The alternative kit came with a T-Tap which really makes things way easier, especially when you get to the wiring your floor light part.

My advice to FM would simply be to reevaluate this product to make installation even easier, and definitely go heavy on the pictures in the instructions, especially since they no longer have to print out instructions anymore.

Sorry that you had some trouble installing these, but thank you very much for your feedback and information about the struggles you faced! We'll look into making our installation instructions more clear so that it's an easier job for anyone looking to tackle the job.

Strong kit, great instructions BUT

Whole thing went really well until I put the cover panel back on car. Pushed the visor led on driver side through panel and the 12v wire wiggled loose from the led just enough to no longer work. Really no way to fix that. I scrapped the whole thing at that point and just using them as block offs now. Overall well made, just wish those wires were a little better secured, be careful!

Edit: FM reached out to me to talk about install and issues. They looked at a couple of photos and felt like this may have been a one of quality error. They quickly worked with me to make sure I was happy with the kit and product. I couldnt have asked for better customer service which is why I will continue to be a customer. Way to go FM !

Thanks for working with us to correct the issue, Christopher! We really appreciate your understanding and patience while getting the issue taken care of! 😀
