Description
So, why do you want a lightweight flywheel? Increased sex appeal of course. But aside from that, you`ll discover your engine is more responsive to your right foot. Blipping the throttle to match a downshift, letting the revs drop when shifting up - the engine will react more quickly. It`ll make your Miata feel more like a sports car.
There is a small but measurable improvement in acceleration in the lower gears thanks to decreased inertial losses, but it`s not a huge difference.
This flywheel is made in the 1994-05 size. You can use it on a 1990-93 if you also install a 1.8 clutch, as seen in our Happy Meal.
This light flywheel may cause some drivetrain noise on closed-throttle deceleration, although it's not going to cause a problem with driveability in traffic unless you're running some nasty clutch.
This particular flywheel is made of steel with an integral ring gear. Unlike aluminum flywheels, it will use your factory pressure plate bolts.

I added this when replacing the clutch...The flywheel is the icing on the cake! It seems to rev and accelerate a bit quicker.
I did a shifter rebuild too at the same time. This repair/upgrade was a long time coming, for me but now the car drives beautifully and shifts like butter. Best the car has driven since I got it >60k miles ago. (10AE 6 speed).
Removing/replacing the exhaust hardware was a real bummer be prepared for that if yours is not a garage queen.
Well built and performed properly
Tossed this in my 92 last year because I accidentally ordered a 1.8 clutch, figured I may try a lightweight flywheel too, really enjoy it makes the car feel more sporty and when you hit the gas is will actually go. Does make sound on decel, and I find to get a smooth shift you need to shift quick or at higher rpm, most of the time I use my car as a Sunday driver so I'm not too concerned with that. Overall glad I went with this because I randomly picked up a 2000 se donor car, found a random good deal and will likely be taking the motor for myself and will swap this over.
Installed this on my nb2 three years ago and it's been great! It does make it slightly harder to get going from a stop, but after a few drives I hardly noticed it. Really wakes the car up and gives it a rev happy feel like a 1.6l na.
This is a fantastic product it does take some getting used to but so well worth it it gives a Miata that sports car feel
