The latches on your top and hardtop rely on this little doodad in order to stay closed. If it's broken or worn, you'll find that the latch has trouble staying latched or is very easy to open, even if you've adjusted the tension. Replacing the lock cap is a simple remedy to help keep the interface between the latch and striker plate tight and secure.

You will have to remove the latch from the top in order to replace this. They are attached with thread locker and may be difficult to remove. Sold individually, you will need one cap for each latch you want to restore.

The design of this part changed in November 2002. The early one has a rounded point, the late one has a squared off end. We believe the VIN for the change is 2003 models ending in 021101, but please visually inspect your car to be sure. This is the early version. The later version is no longer available.

Very cheap and may solve any wind noise issues or fitment issues.
I noticed that almost none of the original caps were still there, so I bought a pair. I honestly can't tell what they did, but it's a peace of mind kinda thing.

Just Like New!
I hadn't even looked at my old ones, I just had a feeling they were bad because my latches were adjusted all the way out! Lo and behold, when I go to put these in, my old ones were broken clean off. I popped the new ones in and the top functions just like new! I'm a very happy camper.

Buy a pair of these top lock caps!
I was about to spend $140 for a replacement softtop latch, and tried these top lock caps first. Replacing them really worked! The right side was giving me the most trouble (it kept randomly springing open, especially if I hit a bump). When I pulled the latch off, the entire end of the cap was broken way and missing. Replacing the cap fixed the issue, so I replace the left side cap too. With quick adjustments, both latches are now working like new! The caps were so easily replaced too! You remove the latch by unscrewing three screws, then the cap is held on by a smaller single screw. I think I'll buy another pair for spares.

Inexpensive & Effective
I was having lots of wind noise because my top wasn't closing tightly due to worn latches. These little pieces of plastic took away that wind noise and also stopped a small water leak that would trickle through in heavy rain.

Worth the $4 - When available, add to your cart
I checked my top lock caps and found that maybe 1/3 of the plastic still existed. I believe that was causing a lot of the vibrations and squeaking near the latches. I installed a pair of these in under 10 minutes total and went for a drive. The latch noises stopped entirely because now there was a full nub of plastic in there to make a tighter fit. Totally worth the $4 each for these basic maintenance items.
