Description
The Miata has always had one of the best feeling shifters on the planet. But as they get older, some of the components start to wear and it slowly loses precision. You might not even notice, but it's not what it was. Luckily, it's easy to rebuild, and you can access everything from inside the car.
This kit includes all the pieces you need to make your shifter feel new again. All internal components are factory Miata parts, the boot is a high-quality aftermarket equivalent.
For 2001-05 6-speed transmissions built after August 2001.

small shift boot (R501-17-47Z) smooth wave washer (8599-17-482) tabbed wave washer (M505-17-482) upper shifter pivot ball bushing (Y601-17-492) lower shifter pivot ball bushing (R503-17-492) lower shifter bushing (Y601-17-515)

I have an 04 MSM with 38k miles. I bought the FM shifter rebuild kit & insulation kit. It's my favorite "mod" I've done to my car. It completely transformed how the shifter feels. It's smooth, connected and eliminated my notchy 2nd and 3rd gear. I doubted it needed to be done given the low milage, however, my lower boot was torn and all the bushings were worn and dirty. There are great videos on YouTube giving step by step instructions. I was able to complete the rebuild and be back on the road in under an hour. The hardest part (for me) was installing the large metal retaining clip, however, with some brute force and a pair of pliers it eventually slid over the shifter. If you're on the fence, DO THIS NOW!
My new to me Miata had more play in gear then it should in neutral. Both boots were shot and the bushing on the bottom of the shifter was nonexistent. Instal went smooth. The shifter feel phenomenal now.
Parts arrived quickly and on time. Kian in service really helped me out getting the parts shipped to a hotel I was staying at on vacation. Parts were packed well and arrived in top shape . My Miata mechanic says the parts look great . I’ll be having them installed in my 2002 Miata in September and look forward to trying out the new shifter system. everything fit great, just would’ve preferred having all metal bushings
Installed on an 04’ MSM along with the large boot. and insulation kit. 10000% worth, do it along with those other two and you won’t regret it. My car only had 49,000 miles on it…… If that tells you anything. If you have more miles that that, or it’s any older, order it right now.
