1.8 swaps are becoming more and more popular and with good reason. It's a simple way to get more power. In the past, there was some fabrication involved. Not anymore - this kit includes everything you need for the swap. All the parts are available separately as well.

  • throttle cable bracket
  • coil bracket
  • motor mount brackets (optional)
  • rubber motor mounts (optional)
  • throttle body adaptor kit
  • electrical parts needed to extend your CAS wiring

If you're using a stock intake or don't want to swap thermostat necks, the hose splice will make your life a lot easier.

For more information on how to do a 1.8 conversion, our instructions will give you lots of specifics. Please read the instructions prior to buying used parts for your swap to be sure you get the right parts for your purposes and to ensure they'll work together.

Your 1.6 computer won't run the EGR on your new 1.8 engine, so you can either leave the plumbing in place or remove it (and block it off on your own). If you do the former, the EGR will be sealed up and the engine will function normally, but you'll have some extra (and non-functional) hardware. Bear in mind that you'll need to retain both the EGR valve and  the EGR pipe. We no longer offer anything to block the EGR as those parts are federally illegal.

The coil bracket is not compatible with VVT engines.

If you use an NB intake manifold (which moves the throttle body closer to the valve cover) and a 1.6 auto TPS (which is much thicker than the manual version), you'll find hard interference between the TPS and the valve cover. This may or may not be solvable, depending on how aggressive you're willing to get with modifications. This is a pretty rare combination of parts to need.

Note that the NB throttle cable adapter will need to be clearanced slightly if you're using a square top manifold.

Also note that this is intended to put a 1994-05 1.8 engine into a 1990-93 chassis (which all came with 1.6 engines originally). This is not to put a 1.8 engine into a post-94 1.6 (non-US) car. Details vary with that swap, but you likely won't many of the parts included with this kit.

very important

I'm 17 and blew the motor in my 1991, I'm very new to working on cars but because of this kit it made it very simple and online instructions made it very easy to adapt stuff over that i didn't know was possible. the fabrication was perfect and had almost everything I needed. 10/10 kit but the instructions and tips that came with the kit are what made it easy for someone new like me.

Excellent conversion kit!

This made my swap so incredibly simple. I had never done anything of this magnitude before and I had no trouble at all. This review doesn't allow me to add photos, but it looks completely OEM when installed. I'm about to help a friend complete the same conversion on his car, and this was the first thing I suggested he buy.

Legit parts.

I used this kit to put a '97 engine into my 1990 and it's going strong after a couple years of street, track and autocross. Definitely would buy again.

Worked like a dream

This kit was perfect for adapting a BP6D into an NA6. I didn't use some of the components but it was all perfectly machined and never had any dodgy modifications to make.
