As used on our 500 hp hillclimb Miata!

There are a few different ways to initiate a drift, but if you're doing more than messing around here and there, you need a hydraulic hand brake setup. That’s not an easy thing on a Miata. You can’t activate your rear calipers independently from the front (hydraulically). You could put a second master cylinder in line with the rear brake line, but now your foot brakes don’t work well (very squishy pedal, ask us how we know). The stock parking brake can work here and there, but you don’t have enough leverage and it’s simply not designed for that kind of use. This kit is your solution. Easy install and awesome leverage to easily initiate a drift - maintaining it is up to you! This kit also has very light parts – that means it weighs roughly the same as your stock setup, despite having twice as many calipers and 6x as many pistons!

Please note that this kit doesn’t include anything to actuate the drift calipers. There are a number of different options in terms of plumbing, master cylinders, master cylinder mounting, levers, etc., so we’ve left that open to the user. Please be sure to read the instructions before purchasing anything – partially for specifics on the drift hydraulics, partially so you’re aware of the (minor) trimming / grinding required for install.

This kit has no provision for a parking brake. Please park carefully (leave it in gear, wheels towards the curb, etc.).

This kit is built around stock-size 2001-2005 Sport Miata rotors (not included), commonly referred to as 11” rotors (even though they’re slightly smaller than 11"). It will not work with 10" (1994-2002 non-Sport) rotors.

The main calipers are four piston Wilwood Powerlites. The drift caliper is a Wilwood spot caliper.

If you already have a rear big brake kit with Wilwood Powerlites, choose the "No" option for the main calipers. If you still choose the rear drift calipers you'll get everything you need, aside from rotors and the hydraulic means to actuate the drift calipers, as mentioned above. Note that this kit will not work with stock calipers and requires the use of Wilwood Powerlite calipers.

Choose red powder coat or hard-anodized in grey for the finish. Both versions are hard-anodized to make the coating very durable and resistant to changes due to temperature, the red version simply has red powder coating over that. It's important to note that the shades of grey will likely not match perfectly. This is especially true between different calipers, e.g., our front Dynapro calipers and our rear Powerlite calipers. We can't accept returns due to mismatched caliper colors. If you'd like your calipers to match perfectly, please choose the red powder coat option.

If you have older black anodized Powerlite calipers, bear in mind that the new drift calipers will be grey anodized. It's a more durable hard anodized coating than the previous black, but while it doesn't clash, it also definitely doesn't match. The red calipers are a perfect match for all red Wilwood calipers.

Make sure this kit fits your wheels by using this wheel fitment template.
