Description

The legendary Hard Dog roll bars are now available for the ND chassis! This bar meets NASA HPDE and SCCA Solo and Time Trials requirements when equipped with double diagonals. Do not believe claims to the contrary.

Fits Fiat 124 as well.

We worked with Hard Dog to give you as much overhead protection as possible. The bar is as tall as possible, but does not restrict use of the soft top or seat travel. It's also compatible with the factory windblocker and all the storage behind the seats.

The factory aluminum hoops may not protect you much, but Mazda built nice solid mounting points into the car for them. So this bar uses them to tie into the chassis, then adds two rear legs for extra strength. The bar is made of 1.75" DOM tubing with a 0.120" wall, almost overkill for such a light car. The new rear legs come with 3/16" backing plates that require six holes to be drilled in the chassis.

The bar is tall enough to touch the inner lining on the GT soft top, but not press hard against it. It fully clears the single-thickness Club top.

Includes a harness bar that also anchors the soft top latch, and retains full function of the stock seatbelts. The optional double diagonals are spread at the top to provide maximum visibility out the back. Our favorite is the black bar with double diagonals, as you see here.

Full use of the cubbys behind the seat is retained. The roll bar does not affect them at all, unlike some other designs.

Available in black powdercoat. Fitted vinyl or leather covers are an option, which include SFI-rated formed padding.

Shipping note: These bars will be drop-shipped from the manufacturer. These bars are usually kept in stock. If not, depending on where the bars are in the production process, it could take approximately 2-6 weeks for delivery. Since they're drop-shipped, the tracking number process isn't automated and could be delayed.

If you would like one shipped outside the US, or if you're in Alaska or Hawai'i, please contact Hard Dog Fabrication directly.

Not compatible with the Retractable Fastback (RF).

Sturdy Bar. Complete Lack of Install Instructions.

Lets get this out of the way. The bar and hardware are sturdy, well constructed, and packaged securely.

Here’s the thing…the instructions are about a page long. Install requires gutting the interior and trimming at least 4 plastic pieces. No templates, minimal pictures. Luckily there’s folks who have done the install and documented their process. Absolutely absurd at this pricepoint that install requires flipping between 4 different websites. The plastic interior looks awful. If the instructions are this poor, Bethania should at least include the leather covers to conceal the mess that used to be trim panels. I’m mechanically inclined, but there’s no excuse for a product to come with such minimal instructions and leave the installer guessing and cutting over and over for fitment. FM should seriously consider reaching out to Bethania to resolve this issue. This seems to be a pattern that goes as far back as 2017, based on the reviews. Fix it.

While we might not call the instructions absolutely absurd, they could certainly stand some improvement. It's on our list, but in the meantime, remember that we have a team of experts available via phone, email, and chat that are more than happy to answer any specific questions.

Great product, poor instructions.

This is the second hard dog roll bar I've purchased, the previous was for an NB. It showed up on time, in good condition and the build quality is great along with the fit. HOWEVER, the directions to modify and reinstall the plastic are very poor and the pictures leave much to be desired. Some needed modifications seem to be overlooked entirely. I'm happy with the finished product but it was far more difficult than need be.

Good product, very solid, good quality

Reasonable install, took about 4-5 hours for this first timer. Instructions moslty clear but could have used more photos/instructions on trimming of plastic structures behind seats. Also would be nice to have products available to cover the defects created in those panels to accomodate the roll bar.

Safety carries no price-tag.

This is a tiny car and trying to fit a huge piece of metal behind the seats is a chore... that should not be a surprise to you. I found the fitment very good, it's now months later and I remain very happy with this bar. In fact, happier. I spent spare moments over several weekends on the install, all by myself. It is a lot of work, a lot of R & R, but absolutely worth every penny... and safety should be be your number one upgrade. P.S. When you pull apart the Mazda "rollover protection" you will be shocked and disgusted at how useless that pretty piece actually is. Or was, since you're installing this bar. Happy Motoring!

looks great, needs better install instructions/parts

so let me start off by saying this thing looks amazing and adds some stiffness to the car.
when it comes to putting it in the instructions could be better, and if youre paying 700-ish after shipping for a roll bar you shouldnt need to:
1. zip tie your trim onto the bar
2. guesstimate where you need to cut the trim to make the pieces fit, just make a paper template, or better pictures in the instructions
