The job of your brakes is to turn kinetic energy - speed - into thermal energy - heat. Then they shed that heat and wait for the next shot. But if you're really working your car hard, they may not be able to get rid of the heat fast enough and they just get hotter and hotter. Eventually you overheat either the pads or the fluid.
The heat load goes up with the square of speed. This means that when you make your car faster, you generate a whole lot more heat. For example, if the corner at the end of your favorite straight is a 75 mph corner and you raise your peak speed from 100 to 120 mph, you're now pumping twice as much heat into your brakes.
The best way to keep your brakes happy under hard use is to feed them lots of cool air. That's why every Global Cup Car ND has a set of Mazda Motorsports brake ducts, even though they're running stock power levels. But the brake ducts they use are limited - they only use a 2" hose and the inlet design prioritizes ease of production over effectiveness.
Verus Engineering has come up with a gorgeous set of ducts that will collect a huge amount of air and send it down a 2.5" hose to flood your rotors with the cooling air they crave. They're made of carbon fiber and bolt in place of your DRLs in the nose. Completely reversible installation and a stock look. We like them so much we bought up almost the complete production run!
The duct itself weighs less than 5 ounces - about one quarter the weight of a DRL light unit. The complete kit is 3.5 lbs, approximately the weight of all the parts you'll remove to install it.
They're what we use on our 500 hp V8 car and our turbo track car. They're an excellent addition to make your big brakes work as well as possible.
Includes ducts, clamps, backing plates and hose - everything you need. Fits ND Miata only, the ducts do not fit the Fiat nose.
