The engine is the biggest single piece of weight in your car. Dropping it down will lower your center of gravity, leading to less weight transfer and more grip. In short, it's faster!

These drop mounts from Blackbird Fabworx lower the engine by about 1/2" and use a stronger bushing design that is less prone to cracking than the factory rubber. They also give better control over engine movement, so say goodbye to the classic 2-5 shift! Bolt-on replacement for the stock parts.

We currently only offer the "street" version. They will transmit more NVH than stock or the Mazda Competition units. This may be more than some people want.

When installed, the oil pan will be flush with the bottom of the subframe. Slammed cars, take note! Also, take a look at your engine and make sure that there's room for it to move down 1/2" before purchasing.

Fits 1.8 engines only. If you've done an engine swap, buy the mounts that match your engine and not the chassis.

Street Drop Mounts - an improvement over Mazda Competition mounts - if needed
I purchased the street version of the drop mounts. Good info when someone’s writing a review, right? Was solving two problems. One, my custom supercharger intake was rubbing the hood, so dropping the engine a hair resolved it, Two, I had Mazda Competition motor mounts, but still found myself missing shifts. It may be due to the SC adding more power and weight to the top of the engine and exacerbating the engine rocking. The street versions were enough to solve the problem. Similar to FM’s notes, my experience is they are firmer than Mazda Competition mounts. The initial break-in NVH at low RPM, and low gear is discomforting - ear ringing loud. My hood would vibrate, I had to talk a little louder, and my license plate relocation kit would literally vibrate 1/4” causing even more racket. Once in gear, the additional NVH is hardly noticeable. As of this writing, my car has 2500 miles on the street mounts and they’ve suddenly quieted down considerably. Having lived with them after the break-in period, 5 stars. For most people, the Mazda Comp mounts will likely suffice. As a driver, I’m very happy with these. Just keep in mind the car will become a little more “raw”.

Awesome!
MSM with little enchilada, wasn't happy with the shifter play during hard acceleration. I've had these installed for over 6 months now, and they're awesome! I have a lot more confidence when shifting 2-3 and 4-5. NVH was definitely high after install, but it mellowed out after a few hundred miles as the mounts 'broke in'. I don't think it's intolerable at all, just don't get these with the expectation that there will be no increase in NVH.

Big benefit with little down-sides
My Miata is a 2002 with an FM2 turbo kit making 250ftlb of torque. When accelerating hard the drive line would load up then snap back when shifting gears. It was not enough to throw me into the hedge row, but it did get my attention. The Blackbird Fabworx mounts hold the engine in place eliminating this behavior completely. At idle the stiffer mounts make themselves known, but not objectionably. The mounts are very stiff when first installed, but after 600 miles or so, they soften up nicely. I highly recommend these for any high-power Miata.

A lot of Vibration, still miss shifts
My stock mounts in my 2004 MSM were beat. So, I decided to go with the street version of these. After 1500 miles, they are still creating a LOT of vibration. Acceptable while going hard, almost tolerable around town, but downright INTOLERABLE in any traffic/start stop. The first 500 miles, I don't think I missed a shift. But now, the motor seems to be rocking as much as my original beat mounts and I constantly miss shifts.
The worst part is I continue to miss the 2-3 and 4-5 shift. Not worth the abuse.
I am going to switch to the Mazda Competition mounts.
