A good addition to anyone's toolbox, Performance Projects walks through the most common jobs on a Miata. The book covers 41 projects for all levels of mechanic, from novice to experienced. Each project is clearly explained with large color photos to make it easy to understand. You'll also find out how difficult your particular project is, what parts you'll need, how much it's liable to cost and what else you should do while you're in there. Written by Flyin' Miata's own Keith Tanner.

There are a few sample pages available so you can get an idea of what the book is like. Click on the project names in the list below to see them.

For 1990-05 Miatas. The 2004-05 Mazdaspeed turbo car is not specifically covered, but most of the projects still apply.

Great Book - engine building how-to please

Awesome starter-kit for anybody buying and tinkering with an early Miata. Super-clear and comprehensive on each project. Keith is the guru.

Now he needs to write us an engine-building book for the BP platform! Pretty please?

Very useful resource

I think I added this book to an order last year just to get over the $40 required for free shipping. I have to say now that I've used it like crazy. I'm working on both an NB and MSM track build and I seem to be exercising at least half of the projects covered, so far. Keith keeps it pretty concise and of course sneaks in some of his well known wit occasionally. I'm so glad to have this quality reference vs. watching countless YA-HOOs on You Tube and the forums.

Every MX-5 Garage should have one

I refer to this book as my Miata Bible. It contains great advise on HOW TO and WHY to perform a task, not just a list of tasks like Haynes/Chilton. In the case of my copy it also contains my sweat, actual blood, and tears LOL. I've personally used it as a guide to replacing my clutch twice, water pump, belts, set my timing, and many other jobs. In conjunction with Miata.net it is invaluable for the home mechanic, in my humble opinion. Personally, I make notes in the margins and the paper and binding quality it FAR superior to the cheap paper of the Haynes/Chiltons so I predict it will hold up better over time and preserve my handwritten notes.

Note from Keith Tanner: thanks so much for the kind words!

Wasted my money

Probably a good book for someone with a Miata pre 2003 (copywrite date) but not much use to an NC owner.

From Flyin' Miata - we apologize if the writeup wasn't clear. This book covers 1990-05 models only. At this time, there is no equivalent for the NC chassis.

Quintessential, Essential

This book, quite simply, is the first item you should buy. Wether your experienced or new to wrenching you need this book as either review or a sage guide. One of my most basic questions, jack points, in covered in the very first section. Clear, concise, informative, humours, with excellent real photos. Other than being flat beoke there is no reason this book is not the first thing you buy.
