Want to cut down the intake noise on your FM turbo system? Maybe insulate your air filter to keep your intake air as cool as possible? This kit adds a top to your airbox and includes a sound-absorbent and thermally-insulating liner to minimize the whooshing and hissing from your intake and get (and keep) as many of your horsepowers as possible. It won't make your intake silent, but it will muffle the sound if you want to make your car more stealthy.

Includes an airbox lid, hardware, and CNC-cut adhesive-backed underhood thermal-acoustic lining from DEI to perfectly fit your airbox baffle and hood with no cutting required. Perfect fitment on Stage 1 and Custom Spec turbo systems sold after March 2022 but can be made to fit older air boxes with some minor trimming of the insulation.

Be sure to add our gold foil wrap for the maximum in performance.

Please note: this is only the lid for the airbox and the insulation. It does not include the baffle or a filter, as those come with the turbo kit by default.

Perfect fitment

I mainly purchased this for the lid because my hood vents leave my intake filter exposed. Fitment was perfect snug and tight. Wasn’t 100% sure how to secure the padding. Superglue doesn't work (stainless steel to laminated padding back). The wall padding is loosely held in place by the existing holes and hardware (relays and IAT). I added some 3M double-sided tape for insurance. I left the lid padding off, because i didn’t want to risk it falling off and blocking the intake.

Intake is protected from hood vents, noise is reduced by about 50-75%.

We're glad this kit was a great fit! The insulation that we use is adhesive-backed, so if you remove the wax paper from the back it'll stick - permanently - to the surface.

Shipped and installed as sold

After reading the reviews herein, I felt compelled to write a more positive review. Sure, there's some DIY involved, but that's the entire Turbo kit in general, and given the price/low-cost, I found it works pretty well. The drill holes were in good locations and even had holes for the manual boost controller. The foam needs to be trimmed, sure, but it fit and worked fine for my needs. I would say that a wing nut type of solution would be better for the lid screws, but that would just be me nit picking, and that's not the purpose of this review. It was shipped and installed as sold, and for the price, I'm happy with it.

Thanks!

Intake air box lid isn't as pictured, there is a gap behind the headlight

Installation tip...mark and drill your holes with the intake heat shield wall mounted in place. If like me, you have it removed and make it a perfect fit, you might struggle once it's all mounted back in the car. Enlarging the holes was necessary and it'd help if FM recommended what size hole to drill. If they do I didn't see it.

As another review mentioned, there is an air gap behind the headlight, the box doesn't match and fill the area. The rubber trim doesn't fill the gap even if it is barely pushed onto the edge of the lid. I haven't driven yet but expect it'll work similar to 3" firm green foam without a lid, maybe better...only that gap IS going make it noisier.

Great idea, great concept but didn't work to well in my application as the fitment of the lid alo...

FM Turbo Hush Kit arrived as described but did not fit my FM airbox as its shown in the photos. Unsure if I have an "older" version of the airbox but it appeared to be substantially smaller with a larger gap towards the fender. Given, the provided weather strip installed as shown, it still has around 1/2" gap. Additionally, I installed the "foam" inside the airbox along with the lid as described in the instructions but elected to remove it as it visually looked like it would impede airflow. Multiple test fits with rearranging the turbine outlet and filter with no luck getting it not to impede. I ended up removing all the foam inside the airbox.

Note from FM: We have dyno tested this setup, the foam does not impede airflow or cause any power loss.

Functionally Great, but Has Other Issues

I really like the function of this product. However, are a few things you should be aware of that Flyin Miata doesn't exactly make clear.

First, the finish is not the smooth finish they show in the picture, it's very rough with deep gouging and just looks terrible. I had to sand it down myself to look halfway decent but it still doesn't look nearly as good as if it were done in a sheet metal shop.

It's also a pretty DIY kit. You will have to trace and cut the foam and rubber edging yourself. Not a big deal, but it would be nice if they made that clear. Just a picture of what you are getting would be nice.

Lastly, whoever selected the hardware for this should be flogged. There's no logical easy way to access all the fasteners. They just give you loose nuts and bolts. No way to access the nuts with the lid and shield in place. So you'd have to bolt it all together first, but then how do you access the inner bolt to secure the shield? Or get the filter on? I'm really curious what they expect you to do. Regardless, the best solution IMO, and what I did was to install three M6 rivnuts in the shield. Then it's really easy to get the lid off

Anyway, despite all that it's a great product. I basically hear no intake noise now except I have my bypass valve going VTA. I bet if I recirculated the bypass it would only be exhaust you could hear. The foam on the lid does touch the top of the filter but I have not noticed any affect on tuning or performance.

Note from FM: the kit is supposed to come with nut clips, not loose nuts. This makes it easy to assemble. If you order one of these kits and it does not come with the clips, please contact us.
