Our timing belt kit is a little more expensive because it includes the tensioner and idler pulleys. We find that almost every Miata needs new ones when doing a timing belt. It also includes the timing belt (made by Continental), cam seals, front crank seal, a valve cover gasket, thermostat neck O-ring and a CAS O-ring. Accessory belts sold separately. Don't get caught on a Saturday afternoon without parts you need!

This kit does not include a new tensioner spring, as it doesn’t need to be replaced. The tensioner spring doesn’t move back and forth during normal operation, it just pulls the tensioner pulley into the correct position during installation – it could actually be removed once the tensioner bolt has been tightened. Therefore, the spring isn’t fatigued and doesn’t need to be replaced.

This kit is for the "short nose" 1.6 engines, with a four-slot front crank pulley and a VIN of 209446 or lower.

We also have a full tool kit to help make this easier for you.

Everything fits and is OE quality.

I’ve done a timing belt service about 6 or 7 times on various Miatas over the years and it’s always gone well. Most recently I sprang a little extra over the various Amazon kits to get this one from FM because it was going on my turbo car. I feel good knowing that it’s all quality stuff picked out by a company that has been building Miatas for decades. The cost was really pretty close anyway. The other kits cost maybe $10-$20 more but include a water pump however those competitive kits have always had crappy impellers made from tac-welded sheet metal that aren’t worth using anyway. An added bonus was that my kit included a service sticker for under the hood that documents the date and mileage of the major service.
