The 2007 FM Open House

This year was the 10th anniversary of our Open House. Every year it gets a bit bigger and a bit better. So this year was the biggerest and bestest.

We started with a track day. This is a popular event, attracting 40 cars plus our staff and volunteers. While we didn't break the lap record this year, we did have a lot of good racing and some very big grins. Check out the times!

That night, we descended on the Sonic for bench racing and free food. Well, who wouldn't?

Saturday started with a pancake breakfast and a parade. We've been taking part in the Palisade Peach festival for the past decade, and they haven't told us to go away yet. Good thing, too, the peaches are fantastic.

Saturday was test drive day, poke around the FM shop day and "hey, let's drive over that scenic thing over there" day. That night we had our banquet, complete with gifts for everyone, awards for the track, staff introductions and, of course, more bench racing.

On Sunday morning, most of the Miatas reunited to drive up the Grand Mesa, a 10,800' flat top mountain on the edge of town. A big brunch followed, and everyone scattered for another year.

If you were at the Open House and have some good photos to share, please send them to us.

FM track day time. We had turbocharged Miatas, supercharged Miatas, stock Miatas, 1990 Miatas, 2007 MX-5s, street Miatas, autocross Miatas, race Miatas....
Fastest Miata - at least, one not driven by an FM employee - was Daryl Alleman in his supercharged car.
Brian Baumbach was the fastest naturally aspirated attendee. Just like he was in 2006. And 2005. Would someone please come and fix this?
Bill and Keith battled for the fastest time of the day. Here, they're doing a photo shoot for the local paper.
Skip likes the lightweight cars. And he likes turbo Miatas. So the obvious solution was to put a turbo Miata engine in a Caterham.
Richard Dekker has found a way to make his tires last twice as long.
Stuart Conkwright was having fun - can you see the grin? We think his face was paralyzed, he had a big smile all weekend.
This was the track debut for the Targa Miata. Despite having no sway bars or any development time, it went around the track faster than any of the turbo Miatas driven by our guests.
Fastest Miata of the day? Teri Cardell, driving our Mazdaspeed. Close behind her was Brandon in his turbo Miata.
Tech sessions in the pits.
Track days are serious business.
At the Sonic. Mmmm. Tasty food made even better because it's free food.
Richard Dekker had a different viewpoint of the Sonic.
A Miata traffic jam in the parade.
Have you ever felt that parades are too slow? We have the solution for that.
Back at the shop, all the FM project cars were on display and running around the neighbourhood.
Heading up the big hill. It's like a 35 mile hillclimb.
Colorado desert country looks a little different at almost 11,000'.
If you lived in Grand Junction, this is where you would autocross every month. And if you didn't come to the Open House, this is why you should come next year.
