The 2006 FM Open House
Another fun Open House has come and gone.
The track day was a little different. We ran the track backwards. It's a very different experience, with an off camber, decreasing radius, downhill "straight" that runs into a tight hairpin. There's some definite pucker factor involved but all 44 drivers managed to keep things on the track. Well, at least one wheel on the track anyhow. Records were not just broken but destroyed.
The times - keep in mind that the backwards orientation does change the lap times.
Friday night, everyone headed to the Sonic for bench racing, underhood inspections, impromptu tech sessions on the new turbo kits and of course - Sonic burgers and limeades.
42 cars managed to make it out to Palisade for the Peach Festival parade. It's hard to believe, but this little Colorado town has some of the best peaches around. Then it was back to Flyin' Miata World Headquarters for test drives, a close look at new designs and cookies. Jeremy spent 5 hours locked in a room with various Miata owners, passing along the secrets of both the Link and the Hydra Nemesis.
Saturday night was a fun evening with good food, prizes for the top track times and goodies for everyone.
Bright and early on Sunday morning, 30-odd cars headed out to Gateway for a good meal and a tour through the museum. 17 cars then headed off for the twisty and scenic Long Way Home tour.
If you were at the Open House and have some good photos to share, please send them to us.

Open House track day time!
A good turnout at the track day. 44 cars showed up. Mostly Miatas (of course) with a few visitors such as an Elise, a pair of S2000s, a WRX, a Porsche 914 and an old RX-7.
Bill pilots Whoosh around the track. This was our first Miata and it's seen a lot of parts. Right now, it's running one of the new turbo kits.
Our newest Miata - sorry, MX-5. The difference in body control between this car and one with stock suspension was spectacular.
The "FM Speed". Our little 270 hp daily driver. Like all the FM cars, it often had a passenger.
Mark shows off his flat underbody. And his amazing speed. He's not allowed to drive the FM turbo cars because he'd make the rest of us look foolish.
Braking hard in our 1999. The track has one really fun corner when we run in this direction with a real pucker factor.
Keith and his Seven giving rides. This was the fastest thing out there. He claims it was all to help sell our Westfields.
Nathan Noble and his Ubercharged car. Nathan came out to our open house last year and liked it so much he moved to Grand Junction!
Mark burns rubber around the corner we christened "dorifto king".
Teri slides through "Showboat".
Time to hit the Sonic for some food.
There was much opportunity for checking out cars at the Sonic.
One of these things was not like the other. But all of these things were on the track.
Saturday morning means parade time!
Not everyone watched the parade. For long-time FM customers, meet Solomon. He's Tami's son and yes, that's Stinky that he's riding in.
Miatas on parade.
Back at the shop, the giant Turbodog head watches over his Miata minions.
Many of the Miatas made the trip to Gateway through great scenery.
Coming in to Gateway.
