Making sense of the suspension packages.
4 different suspension packages for a 1990 Miata? That
can get confusing. Here's a run-down of what's included in each package, and
what each part does. There are some reviews
on Miata.net, but the packages may
have changed since they were written.
FM springs will lower your car and stiffen the ride. The car
will be more responsive, corner with less body roll and will not dive or squat.
Basically, it will be more controlled. If you would like to substitute our Ground Control coilover setup for the normal FM springs, add $161 to the price of the package. This applies to all our suspension kits. Please call us if you'd like to order this variation.
Tokico Illumina (1990-97 and 1999-05) are used to control the suspension and stop it
from bouncing. Stock shocks cannot control the stiffer FM springs. The Illumina is the shock that's best matched to our springs, and is adjustable so you can tune the ride and handling to your liking.
FM sways will make the car corner flatter and be more
responsive. The ride height is unchanged. The bars are adjustable so you can do
some fine-tuning of the handling balance.
FM upper shock mounts restore an inch of suspension travel to
a lowered Miata. This gives a better ride and better behaviour if you hit a bump
mid-corner. They're only available for 1990-97 cars because the later ones have
more travel from the factory.
