Link vs. Link vs. Hydra
Flyin' Miata offers two different ECUs for the Miata. How to choose?
The biggest difference is in ease of use. The Link doesn't have the same hardware specifications as the Hydra but it has been optimised for the Miata. The effect of this can't be overstated, particularly for someone who has little experience with programmable engine management. Since the Hydra is a newer unit, we also don't have defaults of the same quality although we are working on it. Naturally, all ECUs sold by Flyin' Miata come with our full support.

1: The Link can use any wideband sensor. The Hydra requires a specific sensor and is included with the unit.
2: Laptop connection requires optional SerialLink interface box
3: Optional knock sensor required for 1990-97 cars. Stock sensor used for 1999-05
4: The Hydra datalogs every time the car is run although it does not store them once the car is turned off. Logs must be uploaded to a laptop to be saved.
5: 1990-97 alternators are internally regulated
6: The Hydra has several 2D and 3D maps available along with either binary or duty-cycle outputs. These can be used to drive water injection, intercooler sprayers, external displays, shift lights, warning lights, nitrous or a number of other options. The number of available maps and outputs depends on the model year of the car, as some of them need to be used to run items such as variable valve timing and alternator regulation. One of these 3D maps is closed loop, the others are open loop.
7. The Hydra can take inputs in either analog form (such as a knob or throttle position sensor) or binary (such as a switch). These can be combined with the outputs if desired. For example, if the intake temperature is above 40C and a switch is turned on, fire an intercooler spray. Other possibilities are to turn on anti-lag, set the boost level with a knob or have a valet or kill switch with a rev limit or boost limit.
