Track Information

THE TRACK
Grand Junction Motor Speedway is a big kart track. Since Miatas are basically big karts, that works. It's tight enough to keep you busy, challenging enough for experts but forgiving for novices. Every year, we probably have 20% of our drivers that have never been on a track before.

TRACK COSTS
It will be $60 to drive on the track. A free lunch is provided to all drivers. Spectators will have to pay $10 for lunch but everything else is free. There's no cost to go for rides, of course.

TRACK SCHEDULE
(Friday, August 15th)
7:30 a.m. - 8:15 am. - Registration. We do recommend early registration on Thursday if possible.
8:15 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. - Driver's meeting and classing.
9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. - Track time
12:00 p.m - 12:45 p.m. - Lunch (provided)
12:45 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. - Track time
4:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. - Pack up and get ready for Sonic

SESSIONS
We will run four cars, appropriately spaced apart, per session. If there is an accident, the track will close to clear the vehicle from the track. The group having the accident will not re-start; this session is forfeited and the next run group will go out on the track. It is up to the group who loses their session to punish the offending driver. Bats will not be provided.

SAFETY EQUIPMENT
Roll bars are not required. The track isn't a terribly high-speed one, so it's actually similar to an autocross in terms of speed (and activity). Helmets are required. Flyin’ Miata will not be able to provide loaner helmets. However, the track has rental helmets available for $5 for the day. Arrangements for helmet rentals can be made at the track office after you have registered. Passengers are allowed in the cars, but must be wearing a helmet. Drivers will need to have closed-toe shoes but long pants and shirts are not required.

LUNCH BREAK
We'll close the track for 45 minutes at lunchtime. FM will provide a box lunch for all drivers. Spectators will have to fend for themselves.

SOUND TESTS
The track will be running sound tests. If you have a really loud exhaust, you may be black flagged for noise which means you would lose your driving privileges for the day. The limits are a fairly reasonable 95 dB at trackside. Miatas have no reason for concern.
