Windows Vista and Flyin' Miata Link users.  If you experience error "Unknown file system error" when trying to acquire a new data log, this could be to do with Vista preventing new files from being created in the directory where Data Log Lab has been installed to.

1. Create a Data Log Lab folder in your Documents folder and create the following three sub-folders within the new Data Log Lab folder: Data Logs, LinkWIN, and MDOS.

2. Assuming that you installed Data Log lab to the default location of C:\Program Files\Data Log Lab, copy the contents of the LinkWIN and MDOS folders within there to the new folders of the same name you created in step 1.  If you installed Data Log Lab to a different directory than the default one, simply copy the contents of the LinkWIN and MDOS folders from that location to the new folders of the same name that you created in step1.

3. Now go into Data Log Lab, and select Customise->Options from the menu and then select the FM Link ECU tab of the Options window. Change the Data Logging/Upload Program and Data Log Conversion Program fields to point to the same file but in the new directories created above.  You can click on the ... button to the right of the fields to browse for the files in their new location.

4. Now move to the File Locations and Power Graph tab of the Options window and change the Default Working Directory field to the new Data Logs directory created in step 1.

5. Now hit the OK button of the Options window, and then quit and re-start Data Log Lab.  You should now be able to acquire new data logs without any problems.

Windows Vista and XP.  If you try to run Data Log Lab under an account with restricted access, you cannot get past the Data Log Lab splash screen when you click its Continue button.

Whilst this is investigated and a fix prepared, the issue can only be avoided by installing and running Data Log Lab under an account with full administrator privileges.

An issue has been identified in Windows XP where if the "Language for Non-Unicode Programs" option is set to an East Asian language, Data Log Lab's trial functionality does not work. This results in premature expiry of the trial period.

Whilst this is investigated and a fix prepared, the issue can be avoided by changing this setting to a non East Asian language, e.g. "English (United States)". The setting can be found in Control Panel->Regional and Language Options->Advanced tab.

Windows Vista.  If Data Log Lab us installed under an account without Administrator rights, the installation of Data Log Lab does not conclude correctly and when Data Log Lab is ran, it hangs on the splash screen or reports an error and does not continue into the program.

This simplest solution is to install Data Log Lab using an account that does have Administrator rights, but failing that, the following steps can be followed:

After Data Log Lab has been installed:

(Please note that the scripts below will amend the registry of the computer on which they are ran and there is always a risk that this type of activity will adversely affect the running and stability of the computer or the programs running on it.  Data Log Lab accept no liability or responsibility for any damage that might be done to your computer or the data held on it by executing these scripts, so please only execute the scripts if you accept this risk.)

1. Firstly download and run this script.  Then try running Data Log Lab again.  If Data Log Lab still does not work, go to step 2.

2. Secondly download and run this script.  If Data Log Lab does still not run after the second script has been executed, please contact Data Log Lab support by emailing to support@dataloglab.com.

Data Log Lab support are currently investigating the problem aiming to resolve the initial installation problem.

For Tec-3 owners.  WinTec3D has a slight bug that means that the timing it reports in the data log is fractionally incorrect.  The only effect that this has on Data Log Lab is slight errors in the Power Graph as the calculations are very sensitive to timing.

Electromotive have promised that this issue will be resolved in the next release of WinTec3D.

Using the Tec-3's on-board data logging yields accurate results, though obviously limits the amount of time that data logging that can occur for.  We'd definitely recommend this approach when data logging a short "Power Run", as under these circumstances accuracy is of paramount importance.  Electromotive have promised that this issue will be resolved in the next release of WinTec3D.

Notes entered into the Zone Data Editor are not saved in a MAP file.

None.

If the alternative background picture cannot be found, start up fails if a licence key has not been previously entered into the application.

Create a picture file in the path and file name entered as the alternative background picture, or, load the file C:\Program Files\DataLogLab\Program\DataLogLab.ini into Notepad, look for the line that begins "Alternative Background Picture=...", remove everything to the right hand side of the equals sign, and then save the file.

01-Aug-2004 When changing SAE correction details on a Power Graph and then re-drawing it, the peak power and torque figures on the graph are sometimes not updated. None.
01-Aug-2004 With a Flyin' Miata 1.6b data log, the Zone Data Editor will not allow "WB" to be selected in the "O2 Sensor" field. This is due to incorrect logic tying the "Map/Knock Cntrl" field to the "O2 Sensor" field.  If you uncheck the "Map/Knock Cntrl" field, the "O2 Sensor" field will contain "WB".
